To overcome the technical challenge of delivering RT to mouse models, the researchers added further imaging modalities (MRI and BLI) to SARRP’s image-guidance to &lt;span&gt;&lt;a href="http://transonc.com/"&gt;&lt;img align="left" alt="Radiation Research " height="272" src="http://xstrahl.com/img/TranslationalOncologyCover.jpg" width="208"/&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;provide a good overall summary of brain tumour, isocenter placement and tumour targeting.&lt;/h4&gt;
&lt;p&gt;As a result, researchers were able to breach the blood barrier and disrupt the tumour. The success of this new treatment method could influence how GBM patients, traditionally treated with radiotherapy, might be treated in the future.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The team were encouraged to see an increase in the number of attendees expressing interest in superficial radiation therapy as an essential modality for treating non-melanoma skin cancer. Superficial radiation treatment offers excellent cosmetic results and is considerably less invasive than other treatments. US physicists stopping by the booth to chat with team members indicated the Xstrahl 150&amp;#8217;s additional energy potential is advantageous because it allows a better margin for treating squamous cell carcinoma.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This year&amp;#8217;s event saw the inaugeral reveal of the new Xstrahl SARRP&lt;sup&gt;3&lt;/sup&gt;—the only image-guided micro irradiator capable of dose planning and delivering both planar and non-coplanar arc treatments. Using multi-media, the Xstrahl team demonstrated how efficiently the SARRP quickly images and delivers the dose to an anatomical target with pinpoint accuracy, thus enabling the concept of patient specific adaption of radiation therapy to be explored within the research environment. Imaging is a key biomarker in radiation therapy and the SARRP is capable of the potential to interface molecular imaging with tumour specific treatment plans.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;img align="left" alt="SARRP Consortium" height="225" src="http://xstrahl.com/img/SARRPConsortium.jpg" width="300"/&gt;The SARRP physics user group meeting was held during the conference and was very well attended, with over 20 physicists representing the US installed base. The physicists were impressed by the latest developments of the dose planning system. Highlights of the meeting were Dr. John Wong&amp;#8217;s presentation of his group&amp;#8217;s work on the validation, demonstrating how accurate their algorithm is for &lt;span&gt;in vivo&lt;/span&gt; models, and Dana Farber&amp;#8217;s presentation on their new QA phantom, followed by a general discussion of all physics aspects of the SARRP.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Xstrahl would like to thank Dr. Ross Berbeco from the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for chairing the meeting. &lt;p&gt;Also presenting at this year&amp;#8217;s meeting is Kai Ding of the University of Virginia, who will present his collaborative paper, &amp;#8220;&lt;a href="http://www.aapm.org/meetings/2012AM/PRAbs.asp?mid=68&amp;amp;aid=19375"&gt;Small Animal Lung Compliance Imaging: Assessment System for Tissue Sensitivity to Radiation Induced Lung Injury&lt;/a&gt;&amp;#8221; on July 29th. The presentation will examine how recent clinical trials and studies have indicated the tissue sensitivity to radiation induced lung injury (RILI) may be region-specific.&lt;/p&gt;

This year’s event was a busy one, the Xstrahl team, including our newly appointed Manager for the region, Beatrice Mattheis-Koschel, spent time addressing questions on benign disease treatment options to interested customers.&lt;/h4&gt;
